Another exciting tourney for our HTR members =
Big Congrats to Bob Gregory for finishing 2nd this year and a major score $150,000. Outstanding Bob , and i know exactly how it feels to be runner up (!); you made a valiant run at it; the winner was just too far ahead. Please let us know how you did it when you come back down to earth.
Judy Wagner pulled in 21st and collects another check for a year to remember for her and Bryan.
Paul Parker slipped into 30th and gets some pocket cash to take back to Georgiia - nice effort.
No cash, but, Jim Templin (36th) good tourney as usual; and Donnie and Tommy, that was a nice late run, and a top-100 finish for Rich G. and Bob Swickard as well.
But to the victor goes the spoils = a tip of the hat to Canada handicappers for the new champ Brian Troop.

From DRF
Robert Gregory, 53, of Durango, Colo., made a run and finished with a score of $249.80 to win the second-place prize of $150,000. Tim Simmons, 55, of Lexington, Ky., was third at $249.20 to collect $100,000 plus another $5,000 for having the top Day 2 score of $181.80. Brian Herrity, 53, of Mankato, Minn., was fourth at $240.80 to take home $40,000 as well as another $1,000 for having Saturday's third-highest score. Elaine Kowaleski, 57, of Farmingdale, N.J., was fifth with $237.80 and earned $25,000 plus $2,500 for having Saturday's second-highest score.

3.) Brian H $1,000

A big congrats to Bob Gregory for his second place finish. Champion, Brian Troop picked up a drink tap for some of us after the banquet was over. He is truly a very nice guy and the ultimate grinder. He participates mostly in tourneys in the Northeast which is why many in other parts of the country have not heard of him. His first day total was a record.
As far as the leaderboard not being updated going into the final 3 races, I am not sure why this happened or the reasoning behind it. Do not agree with it and will certainly bring it up with the NTRA office and the committee.
Your players committee is already at work on some new ideas for next years tourney to improve it. Much of this stuff is going to be really good and could make this tourney have significant growth. Will post on this BBS as soon as they are finalized.

Hi Everyone!
Many thanks for your congrats...what an experience for me. The memories of my first NHC will remain forever.
Will be boarding plane shortly for return to the quiet village of Durango and I will post more later (after I come back down to earth...lol).
HTR and all of you ROCK!

Congrats Bob! Very impressive run.
And nice job by all of the HTR crew, especially Judy and Paul for cashing.
And last but not least, a tip of the cap to the champ. Brian Troop is a very good tournament player and deserving champion. I met him at last years NHC and have seen him at other contests in the east. He seems like an even better person.

Ken,
HTR's superior data had helped 2 HTR users place 2nd in the past 3 years!!! Amazing!!!
Well done, Ken! ... Well done, Bob!
Steve
PS Sometimes, I curse the data, but 95% of the time, it definitely helps ... :D
PSS Wish I could make it to the Orleans -- I have a comp from Sam's Town, but can't make it up there due to a business-related seminar ... :(

Mel, Paul Parker and I had a nice celebratory dinner with Brian tonight. He's thinking about driving from Toronto to the NHC next year rather than flying. His 2 year old car has 70,000 miles on it and he expects the pace of mileage accumulation to increase this coming year. I think we'll see him on the trail a lot this year.
I think his biggest fear in life right now is having to say something at the Eclipse award ceremony next January. He indicated that the most nervous he felt the past three days was last night when he accepted the bowl and the check at the awards banquet. His idea for the Eclipse awards at this point is simply to say, "thanks a lot" and walk off the stage.
Oh, yeah, some folks have expressed dismay to find out that the Handicapper of the Year doesn't actually receive an Eclipse award at the award ceremony - supposedly and at the request of the player's committee, the NTRA is working on that so maybe things will change come next January.

Steve (Judic player), thanks for the promo! mild correction if i might be permitted to brag
In the last 5 years HTR players have finished 3rd or better 4 of 5 years
1st (1) Goodall 2008
2nd (2) Gregory 2010, Massa 2007
3rd (1) Moser 2006
Lots and lots of other top 30 placings during that period as well.
Total cash out for HTR Subscribers at the NHC during this 5yr period =
nearly $1 million dollars
Our group represents barely 1/10% of the commercial handicapping marketshare and yet have pulled in more than 20% of the available cash from the NHC in the last 5 years. That ROI would crash the Robot ;)

And despite that record, there are still many htr players who won’t give contests a try which, as I indicated before, is baffling to me.
More to the point, I’m very happy for and was very impressed by Bob, who amassed a total which would have been enough to win in almost every year other than this one. I’d always associated Durango with their famous railroad and never realized, until Eric Wing mentioned it in his introduction, that Bob’s hometown is also known as a “hotbed” of horse racing.
It might be too early for a seminar plug, but Bob did tell me that coming down the stretch he was able to make use of the contest “endgame” strategies we talked about in July.
Maybe I’m imagining things, but it sure seems like enthusiasm for contests is continuing to grow. The last chance contest had more than 150 entries, making it the largest ever, and today there were more than 280 in the Shoot Out at the Red Rock, and another 280 plus at a World Series contest at one of the Coast casinos.
So for those of you sitting on the edge of the pool, come on in, the water’s fine. And if you don’t believe me, just ask Bob.

A big congrats to you Bob!!! Certainly hard work and your dedication has paid off. We are sorry we did not get to congratulate you personally.
We also must say to you Ken once again a big THANK YOU for being a very steady captain of the HTR ship. It is amazing we all seem to find our "niche" in using HTR. Some of the more computer savvy people can do more than others. But with the amount of information available in the program, there is enough for everyone as it is obvious many HTR players are using it with great success!!
Also, it was so much fun seeing so many horseplayer friends. We spoke with so many of you and Bryan and I want all of you to know how much we appreciate all the kind words so many of you offered. Saying this, Ken, as I mentioned before, the HTR players have not only done well in the past few NHCs, please pat yourself on the back for having 3 out of 5 top finishers on the Tour. That's a Robot stat that should catch an eye or two. My only "scare" about HTR is when I uncover something special, especially playing in tournaments, I always wonder how many other HTR players will have it also. I guess though it is like traveling to the same destination and some people see the road sign for Waffle House and others see the beautiful home on the hill. What a great gold mine of information that allows us to use in many different ways. For us, as hard as we try, I do not think we will ever be able to digest it all but we are working hard. You have it there for us and let's continue with the HTR family seeing the HTR signs and reaching the top of leader boards in contest!!! Good luck to all!!
BTW, if you do not have a favorite in the Super Bowl please cheer for the Saints this week-end. There is lots of excitement here, with many fans coming to N O for the week-end instead of going to Miami. The city is already pretty wild celebrating!!!!!!!!!!!!! The "Who Dat" nation is very alive and loud!! Just ask the NFL how loud and passionate they are when they issued cease and desist order to everyone selling products with "Who Dat" on it. The NFL backed down after the uproar from long suffering fans, citizens, Congressmen and Senators saying it was just a misunderstanding!!! Never seen NFL back down on anything - including the right thing of keeping Saints in New Orleans after Katrina instead of moving to T. Benson's San A., TX !!! Geaux SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks John,
I forgot about the horsephotos.com guy...
Probably because he kept telling everyone that he would only ask for half their winnings in exchange for a photo...lol!

It's funny how everyone always wants a piece of the pie but don't want to contribute to the cost, time and effort of making that pie
