It was only a matter of time until something like this happened. What other industry would schedule a weather-dependent championship during the most inclement month (nationally) of the year?

km
30th January 2010, 02:03.22 PM
Bob Gregory now in 3rd and not far behind the winnner - what a move he's making.

Jim Templin, Paul Parker and Judy Wagner have all moved into the top-20.

Go HTR!

name day1 Tot day2 4GP
Brian Troop $232.60
Russell Weber $216.20 $80.00
Robert Gregory $200.80 $97.60
Elaine Kowaleski $188.60 $63.80
Verina Puga $168.40 $42.40
Tim Simmons $165.00 $97.60
Ken Seeman $156.00 $33.60

I'm wondering if there is a mistake on Kowaleski. I think this might be a cap payoff from 3GP.

Yeah, I agree sheet guy, I don't know why this is not held in March or better yet late July/August to get better weather. Maybe that should be next on the agenda.

Latest update as far as I can tell - Brian is still in the lead by about 24 bucks with, shall we say, a full metal jacket. Tim Simmons moved up to 2nd and no other major changes. There are five races left - all optional and no more updates until its over.

Scofield Barracks 8-1 over Warrens Summergold 22-1. This late in the contest both these horses were live plays in a nine horse field. 28.60 and 17.20. Warrens Summergold is a 5yo home bred gelding (Mall, isn't that your play?)
Lookout.

No movement on the leaderboard (either surprising, or drf is slow updating, or very few bullets left). Down to the final race SA11.

A lot obviously depends on whether Bob and the others in contention had any bullets left this late in the contest, given that it would seem they would have had to use quite a few to make up as much ground as they already have.

Brian was obviously under some stress when I spoke to him early in the day, and from what I've heard things have gotten more stressful as the day has gone on.

He's still obviously the one to beat and I'm guessing he holds on, but we'll know soon enough.

Headed down to the racebook now and if dehere's there maybe he can do a post from his phone as soon as it's official.

Brian Troop's equine doppelganger?

dehere
30th January 2010, 08:12.24 PM
Brian finished with about $166 - so he had a bit over $50 on the day. Going in it seemed it would take about that much to secure the win for him and that was the case. He played the cap horse in the 10th at SA and almost won going away. Had Bob played the 2 in the closing race (which Paul Parker did and which secured him and Daven a 30th place finish - congrats on a great day for Paul), he would have won the whole thing based on the $22 cap place price.

Bob Gregory is a super guy and was incredibly gracious after the thing was over. I hadn't met him previously and, once again, he is living proof that contest players are among the best folks out there.

A couple of notes for what was a truly amazing contest. Three of the four top players on the leaderboard, including Brian, Bob and Russell Weber, were sitting about 5 feet from each other - in the cheap seats. So much for the idea that you need a carrel with a TV to do well in this thing.

Second, several of the top finishers, including Brian and Bob, were at this contest because of the Tour. It says a lot for the value of a spot in the Tour when it comes to the chase for the glory.

And, I gotta tell you, they say this contest can't be televised. That's crap. Even though I was not even in the thing, the tension I felt going into the last few races was real. You figure out a way to convey the agony in making the choice of which horse you play in a 12 horse field in the 11th race at SA where only two horses were less than 10/1 and you're only ahead by $20 bucks at the time and you've got yourself a television show.

Anyway, I look forward to the banquet. Should be fun.

Hovard
30th January 2010, 09:18.52 PM
Was it intended not to update the leaderboard over the last 3-4 races of the tournament? If so, it is a very bad idea. Why should you be betting in the dark? Furthermore, how are you ever going to get this to be taken seriously on TV if the players don't know the score?
