Ken,
I did a simple check with FT Surface and PED=1 as the only selections. The results for those options Jan 08-Dec 08 were listed as:
Overall 416-2330
Ped 1 416-2330
FT Surf 343-1942
Shouldn't the totals be the same?
Thanks,
Mike T

Thank you Mike, looks like a mismatch, perhaps due to FTS (who are not really first time surface)
i'll check it out tonight and report back

Nice catch MikeT, that was a very obscure bug, but it was easy to fix.
It had to do with Wet tracks.
Technically, a horse running on a Wet track for the first time in its career could be considered a first time surface switch and that's how the Robot was filtering.
The item (FT Surface) on the Learn All report was correctly tallying only horses in terms of their first lifetime start on Dirt (Wet or Fast).
The purpose of the filter is to locate (non FTS) horses making lifetime first start on any of the following
Dirt (Wet or Dry)
Artificial
Turf
Wet is not supposed to be isolated from Fast Dirt in this case, and that was the discrepency.
thanks again, i spruced up the code to ensure everthing is 100% on this one for the next update.
