I have completed the updates to HTR2 and MaXvel for January 2009. You can download them or update with the Full Install after Rick replies to this thread. The newsletter has all the details on the updates. All this can be downloaded from the Subscriber Zone, or you can use the Full Install to update automatically after Rick notifies that he has prepared it with the latest updates.
There is one addendum to the newsletter, i mention this in a post on the 'General Forum' = "Full Card" screen. This new feature is part of HTR2 (FULL CARD button) and there will be a separate PDF for it available as well. I think you'll love it.

The HTR Report for Jan/Feb 2009 is up in the Subscriber Zone (http://htr.horsedata.com/HTR_Protected/membersonly.htm).
There is an addendum to the newsletter on the "Full Card" screen. This new feature is part of HTR2 (FULL CARD button). Full_Card_Screen_and_Chalk_Evaluator.pdf (http://htr.horsedata.com/HTR_Protected/pdf/Full_Card_Screen_and_Chalk_Evaluator.pdf).
We are trying a new installer package. Right now we are demo-ing it but if it works as well as it looks like it works then this will become the regular installer package.
HTR2MaxvelSetup.exe ( http://www.homebased2.com/km/dnl/HTR2MaxvelSetup.exe )
This installer will work as a full install of HTR2 and MaxVel and also will work as an upgrade if you already have HTR2 installed. If you already have HTR2 installed you can either uninstall it and run this new install or just go ahead and run the new install. It will replace the programs that have changed, or in the case of MaxVel, it will add it if you didn't have it downloaded.
This new installer is actually smaller than downloading one of the HTR2 or MaxVel program files by themselves.
This new installer should make upgrading easier for everyone.
If you experience any problems with this new installer contact me at ricks231@suddenlink.net
You can still download the latest upgrades at HTR Downloads (http://www.homebased2.com/km/htr.htm).
Let me know if you find any broken links. Thanks

The HTR2MaxvelSetup worked like a charm on my desktop computers running Windows 2000 Pro.
However, on my laptop I have had problems before the upgrade. It has the Windows Vista OS on it. For about a year now I have only been able to download files thru the downloader, downloading directly from the http://htr.horsedata.com/ resulted in an error. So, with this newest upgrade I did an uninstall and then installed it. Now HTR2 and Maxvel wont run at all, I get this error window for both saying:
"Component "ReSize32.ocx" or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"
I have uninstalled twice now and tried reinstalling, have the same problem. Anyone have an idea for a fix?
Thanks much.
Alan

We were able to fix this problem with the previous full install (Intall Shield)
Rick will put up a link for that one and you can try again
For some reason, Vista will not always register the RESIZE component properly on this newest install

Here is a full install with the new HTR2 and MaxVel using the old installer format.

I am trying to run down the resize32 error on the new installer.
I have installed it dozens of times under Vista without a problem.
My feeling it is probably added security software and or hardware.
One thing that has worked for me in the past is creating a new user on the computer and running HTR2 from there. If you have something like a fingerprint scanner, you can't let that software install under the user name.
If anyone tries this please post your experience.

I "tweaked" the two new installer package as far as I can and upload them.
Maybe it will help. Anyone experiencing the Resize32 error try out the new installers and see if it helps.
I did a test. I created a new standard user under Vista and install the new installer that I posted yesterday. I got a resize32 error.
I added instruction for the installer to register the Resize32.ocx and the installer to require admin rights. With this new installer that I uploaded today I didn't get the resize32 error but I also didn't get the program icons on the desktop.
The new installer will make upgrading much easier for the users it works for.
I still have the old installer up for download for those that the new installer will not work for.

I found out from someone having the resize error that the full install needed one more tweak.
The new full install should work for most everyone now.
Let me know if you have a problem with it.
Remember it is a full installer and the easiest way to upgrade to the latest versions of HTR2 and MaxVel.

I just uploaded new full install files.
I replaced the demo races with more current races from GP and SA.
I removed the font from the install package. The font is already included in WinXP and Vista.
If someone is still using an older version of Windows and needs the Lucida Console font let me know and I will send it to you with instructions for installing.
The new installer are still smaller than before. I am still learning and finding my mistakes. :)
Well, for the most part yall are finding my mistakes.
Thanks for the feedback and testing this new installer package.

Dan, assuming Ken will add the race grade to Hx4 or Hx5, this is a opportunity for you post one of your studies.....K1-9 down one side and A to F across the top with win% according to Grade.
I anticipate it will be interesting.
How about that $100 winner yesterday? Pedigree + Razor. This cat is grinnin".:D

Excellent idea TC; will do if Ken could add that to an export.
I’m glad someone did well with that GP bomber. He blew the P4, P3 and DD for myself. After he crossed the line I had ‘Razor echoing through my brain! :D The “8f” razor distance kind of threw me; I would have taken him more seriously if it was a few 5f moves. I know the animal was running over his head all summer, but I just didn’t see the wake up happening and to be honest; wouldn’t have bet him if a tote was open in the winner circle. :o
BTW: Nice pre-firing call on the Tampa coach Gruden looking “frustrated” as you called it. The local word is there was a blow up between him & ownership and that caused the sacking.

Honest question that I do not know the answer to.
Does the pedigree rating really matter when a horse has run 55 times and at least in its pp's has
already run this distance numerous times?

Good question. In fact, I know some HC'ers maintain that after a horse runs once, the Ped doesn't mean anything any more. I didn't bet that horse because of his Ped. The biggest thing that helped me is Ken's new race rating. I think, so far, it is a BIG boost to our handicapping. I started looking for just low rated races. Then I decided to ignore low K ratings and Favorites. Then all of sudden there are 2 razor horses stand out....I dutched them both.
Good luck.:)

Thanks for the reply. I didn't figure the PED rating was the key factor.
I can understand how he was played. He was a class dropper and of course
a razor sharp horse.
I agree the razor sharp horses are incredible and I knew they would be.
My best horse racing buddy is a guy who literally plays nothing but
"drill horses." For the last 10 years. He basically doesn't need a form.
Only thing he looks at are workouts. I've been with him where he's
hit 3 $100 horses in a day. Now he's not a winning player because he's the
guy who has the $77 winner plays him on top of 5 horses but doesn't have
the 4/1 2nd choice. It truly is an incredible angle.
One of the things I'm working on to make the razor sharp angle even stronger
(in my opinion) is I'm trying to compile lists of trainers who consistently have razor
sharp horses. Example - Baffert seems to work all his horses fast. To me I downgrade
those horses a tick. Now if I see say a Carl Nafzger horse with a razor. It means a little
more to me.
