I recently rec'd a copy of "Seabiscuit: An American Legend" as a gift & after 100 pages I have to recommend it as a great read. 3 wks.ago while driving thru Salt Lake City on the way to Canyonlands Nat'l Park I heard an NPR Feature on this book & the story of Seabiscuit. This in itself was a minor miracle (a feature about horse racing!!!) & the story was a minor masterpiece. Seabiscuit rose from $2500 claiming races to win the Big 'Cap at Santa Anita.
His jock & trainer were also "bottom barrel" class racing people who rode/helped Seabiscuit to prominence. For the trainer/jock handicappers this is a classic about trainer intentions & jock
performance. It's also about an amazing time when horse racing was the NASCAR of sports.
Check it out when your eyes are glazing over the db...
As an Indians/ Browns fan I love it when the underdogs finally get their day....the Indians are kind of the Yankees of underdogs anymore, they are hard to feel sorry for; but Cleveland still deserves a ring.
