View Full Version : XFIG suggestions

Ken,
Thoughts on the XFIGs in three areas:

1.
I'm not sure this is possible but one issue with the excellent XFIG screen is that under the "F" option it does not use "good" races. I surmise you probably only have "fast" and "off" as options but I think many people include "good" races, while excluding muddy and sloppy tracks, in their handicapping on fast tracks.

2.
I also wonder if it might not be better to limit the number of races that XFIGs scans to increase the chances of getting more recent races in the non-chronological searches. For example if you're tabbing on PER, IMHO it's better to see more recent races than going back to 9 and 10 lines ago. Would it be worth it to limit the scan to the last eight lines -- a compromise between locating great "back" figs and enabling HTR to rank more recent races?

The chronological search is great but even by limiting it via the "F" option you often only gt very recent races -- sometimes as few as the last 55 days or so. So this is a grand feature for determining best recent form/speed, but not for an overall look at the race.

3.
Another possible addition is putting exacta and trifecta prices next to the 2nd and 3rd place horses as a way of pointing to longshots which performed well when we're reviewing previous days' results.

Hope you had a good holiday.

cheers

Andy, thanks so much for the suggestion on the XFIG screen. I'll definitely make some changes for the January update. Maybe adding a Line# to sort by each horses most recent starts, and possible narrowing the "F" filter to 6-months.

Those two features might solve the issues you mentioned?

Thanks for the reply Ken.
The line number is a good idea.

I'm not sure about limiting the PP to 6 months tho because great back figures are often the key to good longshots.

One thing that might help is a mark if a horse is coming 2nd or 3rd off a layoff. That's a clue to look deeper into the horse's background. And a one-year cut-off might work. Or a mark if the horse was switching trainers. Something to prompt you to look beyond what's in front of you.

I dont think anyone sees Xfig or any other screen as THE only screen to look at. The key for me is to provide enough clues so you understand the need to look elsewhere.
Right now the XFIG and KM screens are excellent combos but the TLC screen is the only place to check if a horse is 2nd or 3rd off a layoff.

P.S.
Everyone's ideal XFig screen would look a bit differently. e.g.. I would find room for QSPs, Run style, %E and 1st call But that's me. Someone else would prefer a trainer or WO fig, etc.
