auto scratch

If I run auto scrach HDW and then run 'get list' and then later run auto scratch again, I get an error message, "Run-Time error '55' File Already Open". Also, the scratch screen locks-up. Is it only necessary to run it once and it remains an open portal to the scratch db?:confused:

I tried to duplicate your error but was unable. I was closing the Scratch and the Robot with the EXIT though, maybe you left the Robot screeen running without closing it?

Run time error 55 is an indication that two processes are trying to use the same racefile at the same time. Windows doesn't like that! That could happen if the Robot was underway and the user minimized it and tried to use the Scratch screen at the same time.

Let me know our exact sequence of events if this continues to happen unexpectedly even though you have closed out either screen before using the other.

Errors like this also often occur when two more instances of HTR2 are being run simultaneously and the same racefile is attempted.

I got a similar error the other day.

It happened at various times, going race to race and exporting.

What I tried (and it seemed to work) was I found the scratch file in the HTR directory for that day.

I deleted it, ran the scratches again and the problem went away.

I have not tried to reproduce it, but my thinking is that when you run scratches there are 3 windows open.

1.) HTR
2.) the scractch screen
3.) the scratch list

The scratch list sometimes shows up behind the other windows and when you click on it, you forget about hitting save on the scratch screen.

I have been diligent about closing both and saving and so far the problem has not happened again.

Try this test Ken.

Open HTR, go to scratches, run scratches, close scratch list and go back in HTR without hitting save or closing the scratch screen. I think the race open should a horse scratched in it as well. That may be why this happens only occasionally.

That is my best guess at why I got the error.

I was careful to close the scratch and robot windows after each use of auto scratch and there were no issues today. I guess this was the problem. Thanks for the help.

The auto scratch for HTR didn't work for me today Thursday (12/18/2008).

I never had a problem with it before. Did anyone else have problems?

Thanks Ken, I found that it does help if you put the correct days data into HTR, When I went to make my first wager I discovered the horses names that I wanted to wager were different then the horses that were actually running. The only problem I had was knowing what day it was:D

......dont know if this has been mentioned(just a minor thing), but in looking at the Full Card & Chaulk Eval Screen, the #H doesnt change no matter how many horses are scratched out of the race. I'm running the March 1 version.

thanks Alan, got that fixed, but did not want to update again for awhile since it is a minor thing, the fix will be in the next upgrade after Ky Derby.

BTW: i added the Chalk Eval letter grades to the top header of every race; "A-C" etc.
