Hi Guys - new to HTR and loving it. I was a daily player from the '80s thru the late '90s and now I'm fresh (well, rusty!) and enjoying the game again. Things sure have changed in the decade I was out in the pasture getting fat.

I had one question: is there a way inside of robot to run screens which include the track bias data (maybe Chaos, PAC=1, track bais +4 or something like that) I'm somewhat overwhelemed by all of the options and data so maybe I am missing something very obvious

Thanks and I will TRY to keep my questions to a minimum and just play with the s/w and figure things out on my own.

btw - is it too late to sign up for the seminar in July?

Welcome aboard JB!!!

1st; PLEASE don’t keep your questions to a minimum. I made that mistake early on until I found out how willing everyone is to help in the HTR family.

I’m sure Ken will address your robot question directly. The bias information is a separate report and with all the variables that the robot currently runs I have a feeling it would be an issue to incorporate it. (imo)

This thread on the seminar should answer all your Vegas questions.

Everyone is different when they 1st find HTR; some like to try and learn everything at once / some take one factor they are familiar with and focus on that. You’re already ahead of many because you understand the game and have your fundamentals down. These are the best converts to HTR (in my opinion) and when combined with an open mind it really takes off.

• Focus on your circuit and the types of races you’re most comfortable with.
• Read the newsletters as much / and as often as possible and search the archives in this BBS.
• Ask questions whenever they occur / you will NEVER be shot down on this board regardless of the inquiry. (within reason of course :D)

In closing;

You mentioned “bias” and that’s a great approach in the sense you’re working from the top down. So many people dive right into the PP’s or whatever screen they fancy and try and pick the probable winner. Your approach starts with the race itself and its requirements before you ever look at an animal. This is a major flaw in many players approaches imo and something you have in your favor.

• What is required in THIS RACE? (Bias, MaxVel, Robot reports, Pace match-ups etc)
• How vulnerable is the favorite. (VI rating, K-rating, Bad Favorite alert etc…)

These two simple questions would add so much to people’s bottom line it’s incredible.

Enjoy…this is a fun ride. :)

Thanks Dan.

I was never a “race shape” guy, just a pure speed fig player. However, during my freshening, I spent several years as a competitive cyclist. What I learned from that experience is that a lot of time the guy in the best shape did not win the race. Other factors like the course, peloton dynamics, etc had a significant influence on the outcome of the race. So my new approach is to first try to understand the overall shape of the race before I begin to dig into each individual horse’s fitness level. That said I am already spending a lot of time ( I’m sure my boss and my wife would say TOO much time) looking at Fig 1, Fig 2 screens.

Thx for the link to the post on the event 7/23 – I’m going to see if I can rework my travel schedule so I can attend.

welcome to our bbs 'Madera

The Robot doesn't directly utilize the 30day or 1yr Track profiles because that data comes in "after the fact" based on extraction from the charts when the results are over.

The Robot uses the HTR factors that you would have looked at before the race went off so that you can use the information for prediction.

Yes, the Robot is the perfect tool for understanding predictable early speed bias by looking at results with factors such as PAC=1,2, E/P=1,2, FR1=1,2; RS= F, E, QP +6.

But 50% of the races these days are not so cut and dried, and those are the races that fool the public ==>

For example:
Track Profile 30day data may inform you that 80% of the winners were positioned 1-2-3 at the first call at 6.0f. OK, great, most of the winners were showing early speed recently.

But that information is useless unless you have a prediction method that will help you make an educated guess as to who the early speed will be before the race.

Suppose we are handicapping a maiden race and most of the horses are FTS or 2TS with no viable running lines. How are we going to predict who will be the early speed or what patten the winner's are showing. The Robot has a dozen factors, such as PED (Pedigree), Wk(workout rating), trainer, jockey, etc., that can be tested or looked at for patterns of those winners.

thanks Guys.

so, how do you NOT spend all day testing various h-capping ideas..:)

Seriously, is there a way to export the output from robot into excel? I guess I could run my screens, then print the sheets and manually post the results. I need to test my ideas before I run my bankroll into the ground!

thx,

jb

I, personally, use this ugly little thing called "work".

JB - welcome. To answer your question, many of us use Access to develop, test and save our own robot-like queries. There is a section of the HTR BB devoted to Access and HTR that you might check out - or, better yet, make it to the seminar and attend Donnie's Access portion of the seminar at the end of the day. Watch out though, once you get started you'll find it even harder to get back to work.

We have extensive Export facility - click into the HTR LIbrary on this website and scroll to the bottom. You'll find an HTR/Access user guide and numerous PDF file specs for the output.

Click the EXPORT button at the bottom of the HTR main screen to convert the data to comma-delimited files and then import it into any other app.

thanks - I'll need to do something as I'm ending up with too many contenders and I will need to do additional sorts/screens. I guessing (hoping?) that it is not uncommon for new users to go "nuts" with all the functionality and end up finding too many gems.

btw - did have my first HTR winner today and I will be honest it's the first time, after many years of handicapping, that I felt luck had nothing to do with winning (ok, maybe there's always a little bit of luck.....:D).

too bad I was on a conference call and forgot that I didn't have my speaker phone on mute, I was watching the race on twinspires tv and the finish was close so I jumped out of my chair and screamed "get up". all of a sudden there was silence on the phone and I realized everyone heard me.....oops
