I don’t see a lot for difference between the FIG1 graph and the FIG2 graph. Nor have I found much use for the current figure on FIG3.

I think it would be a wonderful tool if a comprehensive performance figure could be charted in such a manner as these screen.

I have for a long time visually tried to gauge overall improvement by using the class figure, E1 (E2 in those race that do not have an E1 figure), LP and the speed number from Bris PP’s. Calculating it manually is far more time consuming than I can even consider.

But such an assessment of ability and more importantly the pattern of improvement such a overall comprehensive figure would be very productive in my opinion.

Having a figure that tried to gauge overall improvement and or ability would give HTR handicappers a solid base that the handicapper could then go beyond and look into the more isolated individual aspects of a horses ability. Such as one of the single pace figures or just class or just speed or some other handicapping aspect.

I’m not sure what HTR numbers equally compare to the Bris numbers in this case. But I was curious if developing such a figure and graphing it in place of one of the current FIG screens was both feasible and of interest to anyone?

Thanks for the suggestion TJ

I have it myself and suggested to change FIG1 and FIG2 many times and to switch them to the PER and received firm rejections from the users who like those screens and refuse to let me change them.

Many custom program requests use either, A/P, PER or the PAC, PAC+PER for the graph instead of the final time numbers. But most users want the 'sheet' style with final time Cramer ratings only and i respect their wishes.

FIG3 was Donnie's idea to use PAC figs as the primary rating, but it is adjusted with the final figure. Some people like it, but I'm happy to change it if everyone agrees.

I have tested for years various combination figures and numbers like you describe as 'comprehensive performance' - but those are largely semantic hype. I have never been able to improve on the A/P velocity as an overall single snapshot of race performance. If you could test the BRIS number (and you can't get large scale unbiased Robot-style evidence on any BRIS ratings without spending a fortune), the results would be approximately 26% winners and ROI = 0.82 for any combination or methodology chosen to select that rating - very similar to Beyer speed.

I understand that you want to use it for analysis, not systematic selections. If you want to contact me after New Year about a custom screen replacing FIG1, i'll insert any other rating you want in the graph in exchange for a $100 donation to webmaster Rick.

Does the A/P figure graph well?

In the FPS format that it is in, it would not seem to be a good pattern number in that the fluctuation would not seem to vary enough from 52 to 56 to look good on a graph.

Convert it to Pratt...that would graph neatly.

correct, as T' said, we can convert the A/P into a 2-digit figure

example 54.33 = 43

subtract 50, multiply by x 10 and round off is the simpliest way

I believe the old PRAT did something similar, but might have needed a different scale as FR3 numbers often fall below 50.00 fps

been there, done that, TJ, if you want it you got it

That would be cool if the "easter egg" key worked in the velocity screen of selected pace lines.

T' the easter egg <F> key is for the PP screens only as it merely filters the display - but does not alter the selection process. The VEL section IV is a display of the lines that were chosen, so the filter has no benefit there.

Using PL-4 or 6 should accomplish what you are looking for though.
