As we get closer to June, Donnie and I are starting to get ready for the Access database portion of the HTR Seminar. We decided to start a thread where you can tell us the kinds of things that you want to see covered and we will try to include as many of them as we can.
So fire away with your wish list and we’ll see what we can do!

I don’t know if this is too complex or feasible, but how about a roadmap or template to follow to create VBA Test for:
A) Creating our own ratings like Mike Dee Number on TLC
B) Creating reports for all tracks. ie Single print out that will show win% and ROI for all tracks in the dB.
If too complex, no need to worry...
Thanks,
Glen

Thanks Glen! Mike and I had kicked around a few ideas and one of them was reports and how to create/modify them. I know some people here use the program to make their picks, but don't know how to format the reports, so it was definitely on our list. A report section will probably be included...
Keep 'em coming!!

A few things that might be usefull:
1) sample of how to code and execute an SQL statement and save it.
Might do one simple and one compound example.
2) example of how to use VBA to rank an unranked field and/or how it could be
done with an SQL statement.
3) perhaps a session on how to do regular backup, compression, and why compression
is sometimes necessary.

Like Glen, would also like to see how to look at multiple track reports. Like you run a query and then look at report and see ROI and profit etc. but for each track. If any body knows how to do this please let me know. I am comfortable with reports, just want to see if can see all tracks at once. Suspect it means lots of querys.

I'm really getting excited about this - all those nights in the trailer to learn Access & VBA! Have yet to do a single enquiry.... one thing I'd like to learn is how to do sensitivity analysis on Impact Edif in combination with other factors (like, running style setups). I'd like to learn how to do queries for one track, one trainer, and one jockey at a time.
A question for you: what preparation do you suggest for us neophytes to get the most out of your seminar?

Best of luck guys.
I enjoyed last year's presentation Donnie made, and was lucky enough to sit next to Mike Dee and peek over his shoulder to see what he was doing too.
I would like to hear more about calculated fields, I don't do them very well.
As to what else, I think your "best bet" is to come open minded and maybe hand out a questionaire Friday night, letting people check what they would want covered in order of preference and speak to that. You'll have a better "read" on your audience that way. Tough in any case. Go too basic and you'll bore the more experienced bunch, go too deep and you'll drive the newbies crazy.
Aw the heck with it, just show us how to pick a few more winners, everyone will go home happy....
later,
Carl

For me personally, just the basic stuff, like making expressions (that actually do what you want), setting up reports (specifically ROI and IV), etc. Would probably bore the heck out of most of these posters. But I won't be able to go anyway. Will the handouts be available?

Mike,
Carl has an excellent suggestion on polling Friday night what's wanted. Occurred to me that you could find out the mix of skill level that will be attending by doing one of this board's polls.

The main reason for asking now is to us time to prepare some material for the sesson and we hope to cover as many of the things that everyone wants as we can.
Doing a poll friday nite is kinda late for any prepration, because I don't plan on spending Friday nite in Vegas at the ole PC:D
But we can do a survey before we start the session and we will do as much as we can on the fly as questions are asked.

Mike......as usual I did not state things very clearly when referring to Friday night survey. What I meant was perhaps a poll on this board now of skill level's that will be attending would help you to know the level of complexity to present.
I couldn't see you slaving over the PC in Vegas Friday night either. :)

Mike,
seems most things have been covered. Maybe going through one process that would cover most everything would be a good way to go. For instance I have been building a piece to calc the jockey RS that George is using with some success..seems there a a few hoops to jump through..maybe if we built something along those lines we would get a lot of answers and a useful tool in the end. Just a suggestion.
