03/03/2007 GP Race- 2 / #8, “Sahara Heat”

Discussing the PPX the other day with Carl, and this race is a good working example.

4Th start for the horse. Two nondescript sprints, followed by a solid turf try.

• Last turf pedigree = 446
• Today routing on the dirt? = 936

3 Dirt works in the interim all better than the previous (Last being an "A") added to the confidence and 8-1, really added to the confidence. As we all know, it’s not an exact science, but this data is by and large completely lost on the public. :)

BTW: Cruz almost blew this ride. He had Pletcher's horse put away with a strong hand ride. When he went to the whip the horse sulked and started that tell tale sign of swishing his tail which normally means…Stop hitting me you idiot!!! (Or, something to that effect :p )
He was lucky to win the picture.

IMO: Something that is lost on many riders…I wish they could study a Pincay hand ride and see just how effective it can be. I’m with Trevor Denman 110%...Abolish the whips already. It’s barbaric and it does NOT help our great sports image either. My step-daughter and X-wife cringe every time their whipped. (BTW: Both own and REALLY love horses)

OK…Off the soapbox and back to the races!!! :D

Thanks Duane,

Speaking of Pletcher, how about the 4th…

He starts 2 FTS and big surprise…He runs 1-2, but the odds were 3-1 and the 50-1  ran a fast closing (altered course) 2nd.

The crowd is OBSESSED by which one JR chooses. So often they are right, but Todd has so few culls 50-1 was outrageous!

Stop whipping your wife and daughter and they'll probably stop cringing....:D

to your point tho...the good trainers know the breeding of their stock and they move them to the proper surface once they feel the animal is fit. These are always HUGE tournament plays for me!
BTW...I don't know what I did with the old PPX...I must have overwritten it with the QUICK PPX version....can someone email it to me? I would be forever in your debt!

That is so true.

I keep reminding myself just how much the top barns know about these animals before there first race. Pletcher’s dad breaks many of his baby’s and he has a REAL good idea in the morning working in company who can do what.

There off in the 7th...
