View Full Version : Robot Spot Play Thought

Ken, have enjoyed the spot play excitement from overseas ... back now. Had a thought, however, that with possibly a minor software patch you could add to the Robot the capability to create Spot Plays that can avoid certain Item Filters. As an example, the ability to run data and create spot plays that do NOT include a filter would be very valuable. An example: WINF Last. And others as well. Trying to say ... selecting a Item Filter such as WINF Last ... with the selection being to include only those meeting that filter, or with the selection being to exclude those meeting that filter. Probably other aspects of the Robot could be treated similarly.

Sounds interesting.
How about a " Last Results" check box.
This would store the race/track that a Robot query produces.
You would then have the option of running another query on just those (Last Result) races.
So for example, you could run the first query on "Bad Favorites", or the type of (do not include) items that CMarvin mentioned, then run a second quiry on just those races.
This would also give you the option to run the 1st query on a particular K rank, say K1, then run a 2nd query on other K's from the same race.
This one little check box (if possible) would expand the Robot capabilities like a fission reaction.

I agree with Marvin. Another example is NOT $ or NOT $$ was one that I found woulda improved one of my tests using the Robot and not have to use Access.
For a simple user interface, consider:
A. item off is GREY (as is now)
B. Click GREY to turn ON, and display mark USE as colored GREEN.
C. Click GREEN to turn to NOT, and display mark NOT as colored RED

I've been saving robot results to "notepad" using various file names to keep reports seperate.
"FTS-PED-2-21-07-------then FTS-TRN-2-21-07.......also use A-B-C a lot........
Wordpad saves as a text file can easely be moved into Excel.
if you don't know......right click anywhere on page....left click on select all......THEN right click once more, this time left click on "COPY"
Now go to start button open wordpad........left click on edit.......left click...paste......
left click on file.......left click on "save as" get as creative as you dare, only remembering that your the one who has to remember what the file names mean ;) :D :)

thanks for the suggestions and comments -
The Robot is not a database program. I know every user would like to be able to have unlimited query with every possible ranking, factor and parameter of YES, NO, AND and OR.
But i can't build a better mousetrap than Access to do that.
The Robot is simple tool and will have to stay that way so it is accessable to every user "right out of the box".
I'm out of interface space and out of module size for the Robot in it's current platform. It would have to be an entire re-write to provide a full spread of every factor and ranking. A massive project that would take a year to finish and even longer to beta test.
We hold a seminar every summer and Donnie teaches for hours on how to do query with every parameter in HX4 (basically unlimited HTR criteria availability). Mike and Donnie also wrote a user guide available on-line explaining step by step how to do queries with HX4 are fully documented.
Have to accept the limitations of the Robot and move on to db query if you want greater flexibility and capability with your research.

That's fine Ken, I thought it might be a simpler subset. I do use Access. Charlie
