Hi - Is there any indication that lower VI races yield better exotic payouts?

The lower Vi is suppose to indicate more wide open races. I would think by association it would also mean higher exotics.

Ritz, no question about it, the lower the Vi, the higher the average Exa, Tri and Super.

But that may be a simple function of field size. The Vi is very field size sensitive and so are exotic payoffs, obviously. Larger fields cost more money to play deep and create more confusion for the bettors.

But the key point is that the favorites will win less often and finish ITM less often, creating higher payoffs. The public tends to box the verticle exotics, and they almost always "throw in" the chalk. Success comes when you beat that scenario.
