I have been using HTR and HTR2 a long time now and today I encountered a problem I have never had before. After downloading todays data files and yesterday's results and charts files, I tried to load HTR2 as I ususally do, but when I clicked on the icon on the desktop, the blue HTR2 box comes ups as usual, but when I click on 'Enter HTR2" I receive a message saying "HTR2 has encountered a problem and needs to close". After rebooting a couple of times and even trying a "System Restore" I still have the same problem.
I then went thru the upgrade routine to reload the current version of HTR2.exe (Feb, 2006 Version) and Ii still get the same message.
I would like to be able to solve my problem and be able to keep my years data that I have in HTR to run the robot.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Try uninstalling.
Download the latest version.
Reinstall.
Let us know what happens.
If that doesn't do any good, yell "km help".
I don't know what the problem is. Haven't run into that one before.
But this is about the only trick I know to try other than the one you have already tried.

Rick, when u say "Reinstall", just exactly what do u mean? As i mentioned I did reload the Feb, 2006 version of HTR2. If I reinstall everything, won't I completely lose the year's data that I have in my HTR folder?

Hi William,
I'm no expert on this but if you go to Control Panel and use the Windows Uninstaller on the HTR Program, you will not lose your race data files currently in your HTR Directory. Do not delete the HTR Directory because that would erase your race files. Then go to the site and do a FULL install of HTR. That's what I would do.

Reinstall means running the Setup.exe program again.
http://www.homebased2.com/km/dnl/setup.exe
The Setup.exe has an older version of HTR2.exe in it.

William, you won't lose you data by doing the uninstall. It removes the executable and system files, NOT the race data or the folder as Victor mentioned. Also, you have an HTRDATA folder with a year's worth of data safe and sound.
This problem is based on a suddenly corrupt .exe or one of the system files. Re-installing should fix it. But === you may have a conflicting software. I'm guessing that something new has been installed in your computer lately. Virus scan, security, firewall, etc. Or perhaps you picked up a virus.

Thanks Ricks, Victor, and Km for helping me overcome the problem of HTR2 not running. it was kinda testy getting it to finally work. I removed HTR2 several times and re-installed and kept having the same problem. And lo and behold on about the 10th time i tried it worked. The only thing i did different along the way was run Registry Mechanic right before it finally worked....plus the last time i Removed I used the Uninstall feature of Tune Up Utilites instead of the Windows Remove at the Control Panel. Hell...i was desperate.
Thanks again for your help, guys. oh.....i didn't lose my years data either.
