I'm sure this has been tackled before but my alzhiemers is kicking up again.
I just installed htr on a new computer. when i start it is looking for htr.msi
If I cancel it starts up fine but I get the windows searching for file popup whenever I start up htr.
Ok, tell me what to do without making me feel too stupid.
Thanks

Never heard of this problem before Greg.
.msi are Windows Installer files
apparently you have a shortcut pointed to the HTR.msi file which should have been deleted after you installed the demo. Clean everything out.....
Click START / CONTROL PANEL / ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS
Remove (uninstall) HTR2 from the list
copy all needed files from the C:\HTR folder to a safe temporary location (files are probably safe in the HTRDATA folder)
Delete the HTR folder entirely. (not just the files, delete the folder and all its contents)
Now return to the website and click on the DEMO file (Setup.exe) and RUN it.
After the installation completes, re-boot and then click the binoculars icon and see if the demo works without that .msi problem, it probably will.
Re-boot the computer again. Delete HTR2.exe from the HTR folder before doing anything else.
Download the latest version and you should be fine now.

hi HK,
this maybe too late to help but...
yes, I battled this problem and have a workaround for you.
if we are talking about the same problem then you get error 1706
after doing CANCEL the attempt to install. This happens TWICE but
the upgraded program (not named HTR2.exe) will run correctly!!
what Ken suggested does work but all you need is the file HTR2.EXE
in the c:\HTR folder
the quick and dirty work around is to use NotePad and save a file
name HTR2.EXE in the c\HTR folder or rename a downloaded upgrade
to required (installed) name HTR2.exe
also, this problem raises its ugly head when folks MOVE the HTR2.exe
program from the c:\HTR folder.
well, HK, this has worked for me

thanks guys.
that does seem to be the problem. Needs the htr2.exe in the c:/htr file.
I was running from anouther drive. I move it there and the problem goes away.
thanks
