I don't think scandisk is a valid program in WinXP. You have to run the old chkdsk /f and when you run it you have to reboot for it to run.

WinXP will normally try to run it when it has a power outage or an other than normal shut down.

It has been my experience that the exports in HTR2 fragment the hard disk more than any other program that I have run across. I run PerfectDisk for defrag and it shows the most fragmented files.

To me the trick is to organize your files the way you want to use HTR2. There are many ways to organize your files.

To me one of the worse things you can do is to continue to download all the race files, charts, results and any other files you download into C:\htr

After you get a few thousand files there it really can slow down your computer.

Defraging one a month should be ofter enough. Of course it would not do any harm to do it more often.

There is too many varibles involved. Starting with how big is your hard disk and how much free space is on there. I am running three hard drives and find I don't need to defrag that often. But I have plenty of free space.

Gambler- I agree with Rick that there are a lot of variables and personal usage involved. Sort of like the question "How much money do I need to retire?" What I would do is use disk clean up, disk error check, and defrag in XP and then wait a month and do it again to get a feel how often you need to work on your disk or disks. A good anti spyware program is also a good idea. I use both Microsoft's beta program and Spybot-Search and Destroy. Both are free. Oops, don't forget a good backup routine!
