View Full Version : How do ROI query and report work?

In the HX4 mdb that, thank goodness, was done I believe by Rick( Thank you- I could never have gotten started) there are 3 queries- Impact, My Report, and ROI analysis and under reports there are 2- My HTR and ROI report.
I am trying to find out what they do and how I can use them. I am trying to look at overlays of the K1,K2 and K3. I am using other selections and I am able to produce a dynaset that looks correct. I thought I could then use the ROI report to at least look at overall ROI. I will at some point figure out how to do this but for now I am happy I did my first query and it worked.
When I switch to the ROI report and double click it does my entire DB and not the Dynaset I just created. Can anyone point me in the right direction? either with the ROI query or report or point me to where I can create the ROI myself?

The ROI Report uses the ROI query.
So just use the ROI query to do your query. Make sure you save your query before running the report.
Be sure to download

and
http://www.homebased2.com/km/pdf/Relationships%20in%20Access.pdf
if you haven't already done so.
I maintained the template for years. MikeDee is now taking care of it for us.

I have downloaded those documents and that is how I got as far as I have. They don't say how to save a query results.
It sound like I run the query I created- then save that dynaset.
Then run the roi query on my dynaset and save that dynaset(ROI)
Then run the ROI report on it.
Now let me see if I can figure out how to save these things.
Thanks

All you need to do is set the query for what you want, save it and run the report.

When I run my query a page of data appears. When I hit file and save nothing happens. When I hit file "save as " a box pops up and it gives me a name that I named my query and in the second slot it had the word query but there are other selections. I save it. Then I run the ROI report. It still looks at the entire DB and tallies it. I must not know how to save the query results. I'm giving up tonight.
Thanks but I know so little about this I can barely ask the question. The handout has nothing on saving queries or running the ROI. I thought this would be really useful and probably is if I could make it work.

Open the ROI query in design mode.
Make your changes.
Save.
Run ROI Report.

once you run the report you can save it to a word file. look on your toolbar after you run the report and see if you see the W for word doc... hope this helps

First you can just delete the impact query. It is not used for anything.
Another way to do this is:
Take the query that you have already saved and do a "save as" on it. When you do the save as just save it to the name "roi analysis" Access will ask you if you want to overwrite the existing query. Say yes.
Now that you have saved your query to the "roi analysis" query. Make sure the the ROI analysis query has the fields xfin and xwin in it. These are required for the "ROI REPORT" to work. Be sure to always save the "ROI analysis" query, BEFORE you run the roi analysis report.
Now go and run the roi anaysis report. You will get a report on what ever selections you have saved in the roi analysis query.
Just remember the roi analysis report runs on whatever you have saved in the roi analysis query. Think of this query as the report driver.
Any time you want to test something you can just build it in the roi query or build it in whatever you want to use as a query and then do the save as.

The MY HTR Report runs on the my report query just like the roi report/ roi analysis query.
The report and query are a bare bones "just to get started" report format to get you started in building your own report. In order to add and re-arrange the report make sure the fields you want to see are in the saved my report query then open the report in the design view and have at it.

Thank you Mike. Everytime I ran the roi report it just did my entire db no matter what else I did. I will let you know. Sorry but this is my first try at this and so far it aint easy.

Mike
I did what you said and it worked great!
Thanks, I spent 3-4 hours trying to figure this out.
