Does MikeDee and/or Donnie have any plans to expand on the Access Manual after the Goldcoast presentations? Got a good thing going If it can be continued and expanded.
(Applause for their hard work)

Don't have any plans at the moment but, that is not to say things couldn't be added to it. What subjects would you like to see added?

As you may recall I missed your illuminating presentation at Goldcoast - saw you and tomcat at the dining table , made my apologies and headed for my room -took sick and missed it all
Mike, is there any private email I may use to conntect with you? I've got off to a poor start with Access 2003 early on and I had hoped you could get me back on the right track I will be starting a 90 day class on Access next month but could use some help now. I hate to take up time on the forum for this

Lee,

Don't be shy about asking questions here.

The questions you ask here and the answers you get may very well help someone else just starting with HTR2 and Access.

They may also give some of the present users something new to consider.

Ask away.

You may also get answers that show more than one way of doing something.

I am a firm believer that you can probably find at least 3 ways of doing most everything in Access.

Ok here's where I'm at. using 2003. Had run the All_HX4.txt some while back. So deleted the current all_hx4.mdb , downloaded a new one and started over. After running the Macro for HX4, received a message:

MS was unable to append all the data to the table.
The contents of field of (0) record(s) weredeleted and 166,340 records were lost due to key violations .
* if data wqas deletedthe data ;you pasted or imported doesn't match the filed data types or the FieldSize ptoperty lin the destilnation table.
* If records were lost either the records you pasted primary key values that already exist in the destination table, or they violate referiental integrity rules for a relationship defined between tables. Do want to proceed?
I checked NOPE

That error message means you have duplicate records. It could be duplicate records in your table (not likely if you are just starting over) or duplicate records in your ALL_HX4.txt file.

The second is the most likely.

You have to remember to delete the previous ALL_HX4.txt file before doing a new export.

If you had been exporting newer racefiles and the duplicates were already imported into your table you could realize what you did wrong and just go ahead and click YES/OK and import. Only the non-duplicate races would be imported.

Just delete the ALL_HX4.txt file and re-export.

Worked just fine all clear now. is a good way to be sure to cancel the ALL-HXR.txt files to use search? Just find it and nail it. Thanks again

Doing a search is good.

Another way is to sort on date modified.

But,

If you wait until after you have downloaded more races, doing it your way makes more sense. :D

I tried to copy HTR races, results and charts from my c: drive to an external hard drive that has a lot of storage capacity. I got a message that said "the request cannot be performed because of an I/O device error." Anybody got any ideas. While I'm at it, someone told me that backing up to the external drive would zip the files, as opposed to copying. Is that true?
Thanx

Whoops! I figured out the answer to my first question. I still had a zip drive connected and that conflicted with the external hard drive. Just wonder about the second question--backup versus copying.

The files will only be zipped if you zip them.

I see no reason why you could not use a zip program and zip to a file on another drive.

If you plan on using a back-up program, make sure you find one that allows you to read the files without jumping thru hoops. I have run into problems with that in the past.

I have also run into problems trying to zip large amounts of race files. Zipping will take less space as long as you are zipping the extracted *.htr files and not the *.htr files themselves. The *.htr files are already zipped.

If you are just copying files from one computer to another you can try it both ways to see if time is a factor.
