I presently use AOL dial up. I was thinking about changing over to a high speed internet system. Is there really that much difference. I would appreciate hearing from someone that uses high speed.
Would I be better off storing my Favorite places and email addresses in Internet Explorer or on the high speed system place to store them. Thanks ed

Not much difference, really.
Just about between a 10K claimer and Smarty Jones if you use cable modem.
For DSL, it's more like the difference between a NW2 and Smarty Jones.
Depends what cable system you're in too. Some are faster than others, but even the slowest are twice or three times as faster than DSL. And the fastest are up to 10x faster than DSL.
DSL is about 5-10x faster than dial-up depending on how much RAM you have in your PC. When it comes to RAM, 512K is the only way to go.
I store all my web favorites on IE and my email on Outlook Express and of course back them up.

There are a few issues related to each one. I have had both.
Cable speeds depend pretty much on how many people are using the cable trunk you are on at the same time. It can be very fast or a little slow. Never like dialup. It will depend on the load...if you are in an apartment complex you may get some load in the evening.
DSL is a whole different animal. It really depends on the quality of your phone service. I just moved into an older house and got DSL. I am still trying to get all the kinks out of the phone lines to get a clean connection. My modem will drop connections all the time. You also have to filter anything on the phone line. IT is not suppose to degrade the connection but it doesn't sound as clear as things do without the filter.
Like I say though..my particular case may be different with DSL. My son has it and has never had any trouble with it at all.

IMO it bolis down to how many minutes (or hours) a day you spend on the internet). In my case, when I am home I am on the net a lot watching and wagering on horses, so I need the speed and I don't want the phone line tied up all day.
If you decide, to go with either a cable modem or DSL, be sure to get a company that has free dial up access nationwide so that when you travel you can still get on the net. This becomes improtant if you travel to a horse contest with a laptop and you want to get race files from a hotel room, you will need a dial up connection.
There is no difference in how you use explorer between dial up or a high speed connection. Explorer and outlook are software packages that work the same way rgardless of the type of connection to the net, dial up, cable modem or DSL.
