I don't know how the scoring is conducted at the tournament coming up on the 14th. Could someone review it for me, and others, who may not fully understand it?

thx

How do you calculate the points for:

Win $17.40 Place 8.80

Win $43.00 Place $16.00

Seems like a reasonable question.
Need to know how if one is to plan a strategy for the contest.

Bill,
This is straight from the contest rules from the Gold Coast.

Contest points will be based on full track odds on the first $20.00. The remainder of the wager will be credited at a maximum of 20-1 on the Win and 10-1 on the Place.
Example: contestant has a $200 contest wager on a horse that pays $50 to win and $25 to place. He receives 500 points on the first $20 on the win wager and 3780 for the remaining $180. For the place wager he receives 250 points for the first $20 and 1980 points on the remaining $180. For a total of 4280 on the win wager and 2230 on the place wager for a grand total of 6510 points.

In your example A: You would have 1740 points for win wager and 880 points for place for a grand total of 2620 points.
In your example B: Because this is a "cap" horse (20-1) you would get 430 points on the first $20 and 3780 for the remainder $180. For place you get 1600 points for a grand total of
5810.

As for stradegy................... Good Luck, JB

The bonus isn't as good as the Orleans for the payoffs over the 'cap'. The Orleans has a base of $100 wager and $20 is used for the cap bonus (20% of the bet).

GC bonus is $20/$200 or just 10%, not signficant enough to matter much.

Strategy is to accumulate 25,000 points as your target.

The $17.40 $8.80 = 2620 you'll need between 8 and 10 of those to take down some cash. That's almost impossible in 45 tries.

No one makes the top 10 without hitting at last two bombs (@ 5000 point payoffs).

I had 3 wins and 2- 2nds last year @ 20,000 points. Finished just out of the money. Competition is fierce.

In a W/P tourney like this I would think 10-1 would be the min accept odds.

Any vets have some other ideas?

Donnie, I told you to stay off the tequilla.

Take 2 egg yokes, and 3 tbls of sugar. Beat them in a glass (with a fork that will wear you out of a beater..the noise will kill you.) after they are fluffy fill the rest of the glass with milk.

Drink it down. That will wake you up long enough to think you can do something. Then when you are in the middle of doing the something the hanger will come back and smack you down.

Best solution is ..... stay out of the tequila! :D
