Ken, just a quick note to tell you that I cashed at the Bradley Teletheater Handicapping Contest in Connecticut, this past weekend and that using HTR certainly makes tournament play more enjoyable and in this case more profitable.

Tournament tracks were BEL, CD, and HOL (1-6). There were 8 winners in excess of $20 on Saturday, including 2 paying more than $90. Unfortunately I didn’t have any of them. I got shut out completely. On Sunday there were only 2 long shots- a $23 horse and a $44 horse (capped at $42). I was fortunate to have both of them and lucky that I was the only one that did. The best part of the story is that they upped the 1st Daily prize for Sunday to $7,000 this year, up from $1,500. I also collected $1,750 for placing 10th in the overall tournament.

I didn’t run into any other HTR people at the tournament, but there could have been some there that I haven’t met yet. I’ll see you at the Gold Coast. I’m looking forward to the seminar.

Thanks for the kind words. I especially appreciate the comments from Tommy C, since it’s because of him that I discovered HTR. In February of 2001 I finished 9th at the Flamingo in Reno. I did it the old fashion way by staying up practically all night for three nights and slogging through almost every race. My brother finished 2nd in that contest.

We were feeling pretty good after that, so we put up the $1000 entry fee for the Suncoast tournament taking place a few months later. I went 0 for 36 at the Suncoast and my brother didn’t do much better. “Discouraged” seriously understates my state of mind at that point.

When I got back from Las Vegas, I read an interview in the DRF or The Horseplayer Magazine with the winner of the Suncoast Contest. The amazing thing about the interview was that the guy claimed he didn’t need a Racing Form (I guess the interview couldn’t have been in the Form). He used something called HTR. The winner was Tommy C. He had won well over $100,000 with out going page by page through three editions of the Racing Form. I went 0 for 36 and probably got half as much sleep as he did.

As a result of this interview I checked HTR out and signed up in May of 2001. I’m extremely pleased that I did. I honestly believe that I would not be entering tournaments such as the Orleans or the Goldcoast had I not subscribed to HTR. My brother who prefers to handicap the old fashion way (DRF) and loves the tournaments, actually stopped going to the Orleans tournament the past three times because he felt he could no longer handle 7 or 8 track tournaments. He is making a comeback at the Goldcoast in two weeks. Although he will continue to use the Form, he vows to streamline the process and get a decent night’s sleep.

Once again, thanks for the kind words. See you at the Goldcoast.

Great job Gary.

You never know in a tourney. Cliff went from off the board to 2nd place in one day at the Orleans. It only take a few good bombs to put you in the money. HTR is a great tool for finding them...
