Have been making my way through Access with a lot of help from Rick and others on the
BBS. Now trying to create an ROI report on query I did, and am running into problems. I did a search for create ROI report but find little discussion about how to do it. Is it possible for someone to post info on this. Would like to get past this point before the seminar, and have enough data for it to be useful for spot plays now. Thanks

I assume you are using the template Db with the ROI analysis query and the ROI report
The ROI reprot runs on the ROI analysis query. Any query can be the ROI analysis query. you can rename your spot play to ROI Analysis and replace the sample ROI analysis query. Just make sure that you spot has has the fields xfin and xwin in it so the calcuations can be doen by the report.
Be suer to save the analysis query

Tried what you said. I decided to try to do the report that someone had posted awhile ago--place bets with basic play of Vi>35, K>=110, rank 1, df 5.5-10
I created that query from my database and called it place query
I'm using Access 2000. On the query page of all_hx4: Database, I tried to drag the "PLACE query" into the "ROI analysis." Wouldn't allow it. So first question is how replace the sample ROI analysis query.
Second question is how to index place in the report so it doesn't show me win, or just win

Just realized that a prior query is in roi analysis. Do I need to delete that query before I can replace with the PLACE query? Or should it just overwrite? If I need to delete, do I right click on roi analysis query and click delete, or will that delete the roi analysis template as well?
Thanks

Zim,
The easiest way is to use the ROI anaylsis query that came with the template. All you have to do is remove any previous info on the criteria line, add the criteria to the fields you want to use, save and run the report.
Other than that I would suggest you rename your present ROI analysis query to something like "ROI analysis - B" (without the quotes) and then rename your new query to ROI analysis.
I will let someone else respond to the rest of your message.

Zim,
I have an old report that is an ROI report for Win, Place, and Show, all together.
To use it you will have to import the old query and the report into your present database.
Of course there may be someone else out there that modified it to match the query present in your version of the template.

I have the right query in the roi query analysis now, but am uncertain how to do criteria so that I get a place ROI, not a win ROI which is what it seems to give me in the report. Any advice
Rick--I would be interested in getting the old report from you that gives win, place and show.

Is it possible to do a query/report with ROI analysis betting 2 or 3 horses a race? If so, how does one designate criteria for that?

sorry "Z"
I was away a couple of days and couldn't get back to you.
1. The ROI analysis report only does the ROI calculation on winners not place horses. You need a customized version to do place.
2. The report in essence already does multiple horses per race. For example lets say you select rKrat (the K no) >=1 and <=3 as your filter. This says that you are betting the top 3 K hores in every race in your filter. The ROI reprot will give you the ROI analysis on that flter.
In other words, whatever horses come up in your filter (any number per race) are part of the ROI calculation.
The ROI analysis query, has no importance in and of itself, it is just a query that will run so if someone uses the template and runs the report, the report will not crash.
You can make any query you want the ROI analysis query. You can either "rename" or "save as" your query to the ROI Analysis Query. If you "rename", then your query becomes the ROI analysis query. If you "save as" your query becomes the ROI analysis query, but your query remains with its orginal name as well.
There is a second way to change the query the ROI analysis report uses to run the ROI analysis on.
Goto the design view of the analysis report.
click on View
click on properities
click on format tab
The first line of this pop up is the record source you will notice that it has ROI Analysis in it.
If you click on the small down arrow at the far right of this entry you will see all of the tables and querys that can be record sources. You can then click on the query you want and make it the record source for this report.
Just remember that any query you use MUST have the fields "xwin" and "xfin" in it.

Thanks for your last post on ROI reports. Didn't get a chance to try it until this weekend. If you save as or rename the roi report, what happens to the query that was already there? How do I go about keeping multiple ROI reports or is that not possible?

I guess more precisely, the question is how to keep multiple roi queries that can generate and keep multiple roi reports?

You can do it but,
If you are going to use diffent criteria in each query you need a separate ROI Report to go with that query.
You could do a bunch of copy, pasting, renameing, and then editing the report to point to the renamed query.
What I use to do was have the ROI report in the top left corner of the screen and the query in the bottom half of the screen. I could then make a change to the query, save it, and then run the report quickly.
For me it was much easier to use just the one report and one query.
But, again, you have to decide what works for you.
Good hunting.

If you want multiple reports.
First do a "save as" on the ROI analysis Report. For example you can save it as "report no 2". Now open report no 2 in the design mode.
using the instructions I posted, go to properities change the query that report no 2 uses to the query you want to use for report no 2.
You will now have 2 different reports each using a different query as its' source.
repeat this for as many different reports as you want
