This may be a pretty good query, but, there are a least a couple of problems:

1) It relies upon rebates to be profitable. There are no rebates with Pinnacle if the price is $2.20 or less on place or show. Of the 411 Place winners, 55 of them paid $2.20 or less.

2) All tracks are not offered by Pinnacle. There may or not be a rebate available for those tracks from other books. Some tracks would need to be omitted for this reason. The biggest payoffs did not necessarily come at the more obscure tracks, although there were two $9.00 plus prices at LBG and MAN. Also, if the bets are not made on-line with Pinnacle, it is possible to bet by phone with them, however, the rebate is 5% instead of 7% on-line. The minimum amount per call is $100.

Just guessing, but that's what we do sometimes :) , I would say drop the number of races bet to 400 because of losing tracks to unavailable status or no rebate. Drop the effective rebate to 5% because of some phone wagering with Pinnacle, no rebates with low price payoffs, and some other lesser rebates from other shops.

If we bet $100 times 400 plays times 5%, then the profit could have been $2000. I'm rich! well maybe not, and I know Ken has made this point more than once, it's a tough grind.

I'm trying to figure out how to do a Place bet query. Do you do it with the ROI report template, or the older WPS A1 query, or create a new report with Access. If the latter, how do you do it, and I assume that xfin would be <3

Actually Zim,

I'm using Rick's original ROI report which I edited to become my place report for the ALL_MSA table.

Do you have a copy of the A1_WinPlaceShow-ROI Report? This would allow you see place results as well as win and show results. Don't add any criteria for xFIN, just be sure that your ALL_MSA Misc Query includes xWIN, xPLA, and xSHO in it's design, then run the A1 report.

I will make a place analysis report and put it in the template dB.

Question would you prefer a seprate report

OR

would you like to see s single report with both win and place stats?

I have the A1 report. This might be a stupid question, but here goes: If I don't put anything in the xfin criteria box, does the A1 report give stats for the win and place horse, or the win horse, or the place horse only? Does putting in <3 duplicate what's already there?

Mike

Thanks. I guess since the existing ROI report is for win only, I would prefer one for place only.
Seems less confusing. If I figure out A1 I'll then have a separate WPS report. Again, would I assume that a place report would require leaving xfin blank?

Here are the A1_WinPlaceShow-ROI results for rK1, June 2004

The ALL_MSA Misc Query fields from the ALL_HX4 table include:
tTRK
tDATE = 6/*/04 (do NOT type in the equal sign, just 6/*/04)
nRACE
tPGM
tHOR
xFIN
xWIN
xPLA
xSHO
rKrat =1 (again, do not type the = sign)

This includes all races all tracks for June 2004

The xFIN export does not give actual finish position if >=4, it gives all of these a "0"
If you write in <3, you will be excluding the third place finishers and you will get untrue results in the win and place calculations as well because you would also be excluding all races from your report in which rKrat=1 finished third.

You would get the following incorrect results:

"If you write in <3, you will be excluding the third place finishers"

But I understand that to be exactly what I'm trying to do--that is, the query asks give me all win and place horses that meet the other criteria. What am I missing here?

" and you will get untrue results in the win and place calculations as well because you would also be excluding all races from your report in which rKrat=1 finished third."

That part I do see as the problem in using xfin <3!

Right. Given the export definition, what you'd be saying is: show me all horses who didn't finish THIRD. But the report depends upon an accurate total number of races to calculate the correct win and place percentages. By taking out the xFIN=3 RACES, this is not possible.
