Pat Giaforte won, Mary Ann Hartman came in 2nd and Mike Labriola
came 3rd to qualify.

53 Entrants, 85 Entries. 1st pd $8700, 2nd $4300, 3rd 2700

Some in attendance...Joe Hinson, Steven Walker, Judy Wagner, Steven Wolfson Jr,
Kent Meyer ( last four are past NTRA Champions ). Randy Gallo puts on a
really good tournament...updates available as soon as results are official
after EACH race ! Why can't ALL tournaments do that ?

From the meager size of that prize pool, it must have been a money-contest TC? These qualifiers were for the NTRA National Handicapping Championship (NHC). According to DRF site, adding these three winners, there are now 28 qualified to the NHC finals as of June 1st.

Ken,

I played in it last year. Not a money buy-in contest. Entry fee $250 each. $250x85 = $21250

Prize breakdown from their website based on 100 entries:

Finish----------Prize Money---------- %of Prize Money
1st----------------$10,000------------------------40%
2nd---------------$5,000--------------------------20%
3rd----------------$3,125-------------------------12.5%
4th----------------$1,875--------------------------7.5%
5th----------------$1,250--------------------------5%
6-10th------------$750 ea.-----------------------3% ea.

The numbers look about right.....hope this helps.

Cliff's got it right on the prize breakdown. Meager prize pool is result of the low entry fee and restricting number of entrants to 50 and max 2 entries per player.

It's good odds on the qualifier ( which NTRA might lose because of their stupid new restrictions, costs and attitude. ) and my rule of thumb for a tournament entry is top prize of 30-1 on the entry fee.
