Anyone going to the Reno/Hilton contest next weekend? I'm goning to miss the Orleans contest this spring, so I figured I should substitute another contest for it. Only been up to Reno a couple of times back when the Flamingo had their contests a few years ago.
I haven't played a contest where you are using "live" money ( other than Autotote's on the wire, over the phone, contest ), so this should be a diffferent experience.
One of their contests last year, with the same format, the winner had about $4500 over the 2 day contest. So, that may be a total to shoot for.

Who's going ?
Rumer has it that TommyC will make it if he can find a snow plow to follow,I plan to drive over depending on the weather over Donner summit ....BobbyB from Santa Rosa area will be there.
I'm always afraid of putting out misinformation think that this contest last year was $8342....Year before around 7500 first year about 4100......there have been some lucky or smart plays made........such as a $70 one way tri in a race where Congree was 2/5 final odds,
have been in it two times first time I made money on the trip but did not win any prize money........Last year I went "0" for $600 ......excuses #1= there is/was no excuses I bet on bad horses two days in a row.......you may not want my help or to sit close to luck like that but it will be good to get to meet you.....
the debate is open about real money vs myth .....but in real money if you can manage to get close to the prize money score you almost have to have a +R.O.I. to take home.

Ernie has posted some correct info. The Mex is on his way as well as Ernie and Bobby Barbaro.

Here is the thing with live money events. I will use myself as an example last week at the Barbary Coast. I did not get a tournament check. I did turn $800 in $1411. a $611 profit which was what they paid on the bottom end with a check anyway. So instead of a bad story I made a little profit after expenses.

Live money events are not for everyone. Some folks really enjoy them. It was great seeing Ken, Bob and many of the HTR crew in Vegas. Hope to see Y'all soon Steve Fierro

Thanks Ernie and Steve for the info. Looks like something more than $4500 may be needed.

Ernie, I know what it is like get the goose egg in a contest. When Tommy won the Suncoast contest I sat at his table and hit a big ZERO all three days. As for luck, twice in the last 2 years or so the guy sitting next to me (using HTR) has finished 2nd at the Orleans contest winning 50 grand. Having met quite a few HTR folks, and sat with them at several contests, I don't recall meeting you, but may recognize you by face? Having just started using HTR in the last few months ( and learning to use it) it will be good to meet a few more HTR folks.
