My first impression of Access 2002 is that it is not worth the upgrade from either 97 or 2000. It can run in 2000 or 2002 file format. They have added PivotTables and PivotCharts. It looks like they have made it possible to have larger tables but total database size is still 2 GB and it is possible to have one table larger than 1 GB. They say maximum table size is not 2 GB less all the associated files.
The first thing I tried to do was run my longshots report. It would not run. I got some message that there was a problem and the program would backup tables and send a copy of the problem to MS and quit the program.
It took me a while to figure out that Access 2002 wasn't handling the queries (or at least one of them) right. I was using three queries to do the longshots report and it was having trouble with one of them. So if you do install Access 2002 and have trouble running old queries be sure to check them out before panicking.
Finally, after some trial and error, I was able to get the report done.
I like 2002 better, I just don't think it is worth the money.
One of the big changes in Office XP is to Outlook 2002. They have created a list of file attachment that it will not accept. Among them is exe. That is a security thing but it is also a real pain in the rear when someone sends you a program and you can't open it or save it. You have to request it be sent to you in something like a zipped file. I have already had that happen to me twice.
I have read that there is a download out there somewhere that will change the restricted file list. I haven't got it yet but I plan on trying it out.
Save your money for now.
