I am trying out Windows 2000. I have found that HTR and Impact do not run properly under my setup.
Is anyone else running under Win2000 that can offer some advice?
What happens is I get an out of memory error.
TIA

I have trouble with "mem" when the number of race files b-q-c-s in my htr dir gets up to around 3k........just this morning I deleted all files for May from 1-19(and some from April???)
Because part of todays files unzipped but were not in "HTR".............I didn't have any troubles on the old desktop but as soon as I went to new laptop and win2k funny things started happening......my solution is to unzip all files, build models and update profiles with one of the smaller programs (prat, impact or one of the custom programs like Tomcat)

Rick,
Ditto to what Ernie posted. I'm using Windows ME and seem to get the memory problem right around 3000 files in the folder. It's a pain, but it does force me to clean up the HTR folder and stay on top of my downloading, exporting, etc. Hope this helps.

I have been running HTR under Win2000 Professional since I started. You can process up to one month of files at a time without getting any errors. Since I fugured this out I keep my data by month now. The other problems I noticed is that I can't click with mouse, only tab around, and can't print from HTR screens. This in the same on my desktop and laptop both using Win2000.

Fred4now,
I have been able to open the windows full screen using ALT+ENTER. When I have the window full screen I can use the mouse.
I also have no trouble printing using an HP-6L.
I can open races in HTR but when I try to open a race in Impact I get an out of memory error message.
I haven't tried just using DOS mode, but if past experience is anything, I don't expect much better results. To me HTR has always been faster under windows.
I guess I will just have to play around and see what my limits are. That and wait for Ken to come out with the Windows version next month.

Well, you learn something everyday. The mouse works when I go full screen also. Still can't print with HP-932. Not a big deal for me, windows version coming soon. But Impact has always worked just fine. Dunno.

OK. Now that I have been running Windows 2000 for a little over a week, I'll give some of my impressions.
I was running Win98 when I upgraded. I was getting at least two screen freezes and/or reboots per day with Win98. With Win2000 it has been a little more stable, I am averageing only a little less than one freeze up per day. I am presently running a home built computer with an AMD 700 Duron running at 800. I may have to back off some of my settings to see if I can stop freezes all together.
I have found Win2000 growing on me. Everything looks about the same as Win98 except they throw in a blue background on the desktop (which I changed back to Win98 standard).
I don't know if its Win2000 or IE 5.5 or them together, but I like the way when I click on Favorites it only give me a list of recently used links instead of the whole list.
I did my longshots report in the last few days. Turns out I had over 6000 races since I had last updated. I ran HTR4MSAC and it unzipped all the files but crashed when trying to list all the races. After much trial and error I found out that HTR4MSAC (and Impact and HTR) could only list 5384 races and still do the export files. WHen I added one more race it would crash. I don't know if this is a memory thing or a numerical limit.
Later I will test for the limit in opening a race in HTR and Impact. I know it is not 5384.
