View Full Version : State Bred and Restrictions

Hi Ken,
Would it be possible in a future release for the PPQ and PPS screens to display when the past races are state breds? Currently the state bred designation ("s") only seems to appear in other restrictions aren't present.
Taking this a step further I would love to see the "r" for restrictions replaced with the more specific restriction, i.e., NW2L, etc..
Thanks,
Corey

Corey, the "s" in the PPs is correct and direct from Equibase. There does not have to be other restrictions. Those "s" races are restricted to state breds. If you have an example of a race that was a statebred event, but not marked with an "s" in our pps, let me know.
I was thinking about adding the restriction text to the new FIG1 screen i'm creating for the seminar update.

It appears state bred races that contain any other restriction (i.e., NW2L, etc.) will appear only with the "r" in the pps on the PPQ or PPS screen.
An example would be Friday April 16th 2010, Charles Town 4th Race #6 Bluff the Weather.
His last eight races were all state bred races, with additional restrictions, yet only the "r" appears not the "s".

Is there just not enough room to add those on the PPS or PPQ screens? If so, could the restrictions be added to the charts? That way when a user is in the PPS or PPQ and highlight a particular race and hit the "c" - they could at least see the restrictions for the race there?
Thanks,

I see, the "r" overwrites the "s" as there is only space, i'll see if i can slip the "s" in beside those for an "rs" or something.
Good idea on the Chart, but that would require a re-format by HDW and would re-align the Chart, causing the Robot and other applications to lose all their data extraction. Better not mess with that Corey as it might cause a domino effect of data mismatches throughout dozens of screens that utilize the Chart
I'm re-designing the FIG1 and will attempt to fit in the restrictions for you.

Ken thanks for the quick responses.
Am I correct that currently is the only way I could possibly see if a race was a restricted/state bred would be going back to the file containing the date of each race and clicking on the "program" button?
The conditions of that Charles Town race really brought this to my attention because it was 3 years and up N2L, but went on to say WVA races not considered in eligibility. The #6 showed 3 wins but I wasn't seeing any state bred races.
If you could get it to appear as "rs" for a restricted state bred on the PPS and PPQ screens that would be great.
I didn't realize getting the conditions on the charts would impact so many things. So, if you could get them on a redesigned FIG1 screen would definitely be a nice improvement as well.
Thanks,
Corey

Will do my best Corey, thanks for the suggestions.
keep in mind that HTR never intends to be the Racing Form. Conditions are complex we want to quantify them (race PER, SOR, EPR, etc) , not just list them. The text of "r" and "s" will not improve on the past-performance numerically in HTR as the ratings will remain the same no matter how it is labeled. But I understand your desire to provide more depth to the conditions.

If we have designations for restricted, etc would we assume or have another designation for Open or non-restricted?

Tom, no, there is no reliable indicator for a truly "open" race from Equibase to my knowledge and i don't think even they would be 100% accurate even if they attempted it.
This is because the written conditions these days can be so esoteric, that just we can't fish them all out and quantify it or even abbreiviate it in text.
Example =
"For geldings 6yr and up who have run once at the current meet"
This is a highly restrictived race, but unless we had read the full text of the conditions, there is no way we could tell which horses are allowed in this race from any abbreviated text or numeric key.
Trust the EPR (par) rating for any race as it can break through most of the complexity to assign a reliable level number without having to scrutinize the complex race conditions.
